🧠 Vocabulary Challenge — Unit 3

Many Unit 3 words belong to a "family" — the same idea, different word forms. Examples:

know → knowledge · analyze → analysis

Words aren't just nouns, verbs, or adjectives — they also belong to topics. Match each word below to the topic it fits best.

Write one sentence for each word below. Rules:

• At least 8 words long
• The meaning of the word must be clear from the context

Example for "detox": After scrolling for three hours straight, she decided she needed a digital detox.

Some words almost always appear together — these pairings are called collocations. Match each phrase to the ending that usually follows it.

Example: harness + the wind, not harness + the electricity.

Work with a partner. Draw 5 random words and have a short conversation that uses all 5 — out loud, no writing during the conversation itself.

Example draw: device – scroll – jealous – membership – annual.

Choose one option and write your text below. Say at the start which option you picked.

Option A — "My life without my phone for a week" (150–200 words). Use at least 15 Unit 3 vocabulary words.

Option B — "How I built something out of scrap" (150–200 words), inspired by The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. Use at least these words: scrapyard, windmill, ladder, bicycle, harness, secure, tighten.

Write a short newspaper article or blog post. It must use:

• at least 10 nouns
• at least 5 verbs
• at least 5 adjectives/adverbs
